Spring...for the 260th time

Spring and Easter will soon be upon us with brighter days and warmer breezes.

This spring is extra special as it marks the 260th time d'Angleterre has welcomed this beautiful season.

260 years
In 1755, the two great colonial powers, England and France, were at war over America. After a particularly bloody battle between British America and New France, only a few survived – among them was a 22-year-old colonel, George Washington who, 34 years later, would be elected first President of the United States. In that same year, Russia opened its first university. Marie Antoinette was born in Vienna. And the first dictionary of the English language was published.

Meanwhile, in the spring of 1755 in Copenhagen, the daughter of the King's chef fell in love with Frenchman Jean Marchal, marking the beginning of the story of the iconic d'Angleterre.

This is the 260th anniversary of that love story.

In recent years, the iconic hotel lovingly known to many as "The White Lady" has seen exciting times and now she again shines bright on Kongens Nytorv, more beautiful than ever at the impressive age of 260.
Very few hotels on earth can boast of having catered to society's elite during four centuries, and throughout this anniversary year, we will be celebrating Copenhagen's Grande Dame with a variety of events and wonderful little surprises.

New Guide Michelin Nordic Cities
Michelin has presented for the first time a complete guide to the Nordic region – Guide Michelin Nordic Cities 2015. Yesterday, Michelin issued a press release about the new Nordic guide, including this year's Danish star restaurants.
D'Angleterre congratulates Århus with the great representation in the Guide – particularly Wassim Hallal from Frederikshøj who has previously been a guest chef in our own Michelin awarded restaurant Marchal.
The new Nordic guide will be available in bookstores from tomorrow, 27th February.

Extraordinary Easter Brunch
On Easter Monday, Marchal will be open for a special Easter Brunch on 6th April from noon to 3pm.
D'Angleterre's popular brunch has been a favourite among Copenhageners for decades with a months-long waiting list; so our Easter Brunch is a unique opportunity to book a table for brunch without the long wait.
For reservations, please contact Marchal at marchal@dangleterre.com or telephone +45 3312 0094.

The National Museum of Photography
If you here before the 21st March, don't miss the National Museum of Photography's The Weather Diaries exhibit, featuring photographs from the highly creative North Atlantic fashion scene. For designers in the North Atlantic, the extreme weather is a unique source of inspiration. Isolation and limited resources bring out a certain rawness and fortitude – and a powerful need to create. The artistic duo Cooper & Gorfer illustrate this in a poetic story told through photographs.
Photographs have been part of the Royal Library's collection since the birth of photography in 1839. The National Museum of Photography's collection now comprises nearly 50,000 pieces grouped into a Danish photograph collection, an international photograph collection and a wide range of special collections. The comprehensive collection can be experienced at The Black Diamond.

The Danish Museum of Design: Century of the Child
Right now, you can experience The Century of the Child exhibit at the Danish Museum of Design, which has created a universe centred around children. Meander through the world of 20th century Nordic design, art and architecture for children.
The exhibition gives adults the opportunity to experience design for children; special play areas have been set up where children can produce stop-motion films with Kay Bojesen's wooden figurines, romp and play with bOble's 'tumbling furniture' or draw their favourite chair at Peter's chairs and tables. The Century of the Child exhibition appeals to all ages as it offers a delightful trip down memory lane with toys, objects and design for children across several generations.
