THE SUMMER IS AT HAND

The sun is shining and the summer lies ahead.

Copenhagen is filled with exciting things to see and do while enjoying the lovely weather.

We have put together a few recommendations and spiced it up with a few gastronomic suggestions.
New executive Head Chef to lead Marchal
This spring Marchal - having received a Michelin star three years in a row - said goodbye to Chef Christian Gadient. His successor was chosen through an extensive selection process, and we are excited to introduce Denmark’s Andreas Bagh as the new Head Chef at Marchal.
Andreas Bagh trained at Kong Hans’ Kælder, where classic traditions created a basis for what was to become his unique style. A ‘stage’ at the three-star restaurant Alinea in Chicago sharpened his technique and creativity, after which he returned to Copenhagen where Geranium came to benefit from his unique talent.
Andreas Bagh’s two-year role as Sous Chef of Geranium gave him the opportunity to absorb its natural and sense-oriented cuisine, before returning to Kong Hans as Assistant Chef.
Andreas’ style marks a culinary shift at Marchal towards a more international style, in harmony both with haute cuisine’s classic virtues and cutting-edge techniques.
Andreas’ arrival underscores the even greater ambitions of Marchal, and we look forward to watching his enormous talent unfold and amplify the restaurant’s gastronomic legacy.

Andreas Bagh’s new menu will be available as of 1st June.
International praise for Marchal’s brunch
The American travel magazine Travel+Leisure has toured the world to find the best brunch experiences - and in Copenhagen its editors struck gold.
Marchal is already world-famous for its experimental Nordic cuisine, and now the restaurant’s brunch buffet has also made it onto the gastronomic world map due to its recognition by one of the world’s leading travel media.
Travel+Leisure selected the “14 best brunch buffets in the world” based on a series of criteria. The well-travelled writers of Travel+Leisure were especially impressed with Marchal’s relaxed and luxurious brunch experience simultaneously combined with its new interpretation of the classic brunch menu. The result is an exquisite amalgamation of the best the hotel has to offer – from Marchal’s applauded delicacies to Balthazar’s extraordinary champagne cellar.
Brunch at Marchal is also very popular among Copenhageners and it is sold out for the rest of 2016. Therefore, three additional brunch dates will be available on Saturdays over the summer in our Palm Court on June 18th, July 30th and August 6th. Resevations can be made ONLY at Marchal's website (choose "Palm Court" in the booking window).
The restaurant will start taking brunch reservations for 2017 in the fall of 2016.

New iconic suite completes the d’Angleterre
The finale of the years-long restoration of d’Angleterre is being marked by the opening of the latest and possibly the most unique suite in the hotel. The new suite is located on the first floor (second floor to you, Americans!) that overlooks Kongens Nytorv and pedestrianized Strøget. The new suite can be booked separately, or in combination with the hotel’s Royal Suite, resulting in an immense 400-square metre (4,300 square foot)
5-bedroom suite.
In addition to the ever-present panorama, the suite is equipped with the latest B&O televisions, the d’Angleterre’s signature pale pastel color palate, beautiful oak flooring and high ceilings.
At the same time, all the hotel’s meeting salons have been renovated and applied with the same bright and cool shades as the rest of the hotel, enhancing its natural and beautiful inflow of light. In addition, the media equipment has been upgraded, just as the walls have been fitted with the same characteristic, elegant textile found in the rest of the hotel as well as historic photos of the d’Angleterre to remind us and our guests of the hotel’s long history in central Copenhagen.

Product of the year
d’Angleterre’s Amazing Space has quickly become number one spa in Copenhagen and has won several awards and recognition for its quality products and luxurious treatments. At the annual Danish Beauty Awards, Amazing Space was nominated in as many as four categories and won the award for
‘Best Danish Product.’
This is the spa’s eighth award and makes Amazing Space the most successful beauty brand at the Danish Beauty Awards. Earlier this year Amazing Space also won the ‘Best Facial Care Product’ International Beauty Award at the Stella Awards in Oslo.

All the spa’s award-winning products and treatments are available at Amazing Space in the d’Angleterre’s lower level; here too is the only hotel pool in central Copenhagen.

For bookings and information call Amazing Space directly at +45 33 33 82 33.

Marchal in open air
Summer has come to Copenhagen, and the sun shines on the d’Angleterre, “The White Lady” on Kongens Nytorv. The warm weather means that Marchal is once again “expanding” outdoors onto the terrace.
Marchal’s terrace is now open daily, serving cocktails, afternoon tea, snacks as well as full lunches and dinners.
Hopefully, lunch will be accompanied by warm weather; on chilly evenings, heating lamps make it possible for our guests to enjoy the terrace until late at night.

A digital milestone
As April drew to a close, the d’Angleterre’s social media presence reached a digital milestone. Shortly before midnight we hit 10,000 followers on Facebook. We greatly appreciate the large social media interest in our hotel.

The Concierge recommends
During the summer Copenhagen is transformed. The cold, short days of winter are gone, and summer’s long, bright days and warm nights are ideal for the myriad of activities the city has to offer.

Rent a boat
Why not experience Copenhagen in a new and different way? Rent a private boat for two or more, and see Copenhagen from a new angle. With a private captain you can customise your own itinerary and, of course, delicious drinks and snacks will be served.
See more about how to rent a boat here.

The Danish castles
Denmark is the oldest monarchy in the world and is filled with castles very much worth visitng. At Kronborg - famous for its association with Holger Danske and Hamlet - you can explore the dark catacombs. Frederiksberg Castle is more romantic: Its stunning gardens and handsome 17th-century architecture provide a beautiful setting for a warm summer evening.
Read more about the royal castles here.

Neighbouring Sweden
We warmly recommend the 50-minute drive across the dramatic Øresund Bridge to experience Sweden’s vibrant city of Malmø. Once an industrial town, Malmo has been transformed into a cultural centre characterised by pleasant shopping streets, the Turning Torso skyscraper (tallest building in Scandinavia), and the new opera house with its repertoire of opera, theatre and dance.
